This paper deals with possible representations on the part of the citizens in relation to a certain neighborhood in which they reside, formed from the reading of a daily popular newspaper, the Diário Gaúcho, and by the reading of a neighborhood newspaper, which counts on the participation Of the inhabitants of the same locality, the News. The methodology is based on the Theory of Social Representation (MOSCOVICI), having as quantitative and qualitative research techniques, content analysis techniques, interviews, aiming the survey of the reality of the place from the reading of the editions of Diário Gaúcho from January 10 to 17, February, March and April 2006 and the January, February and April editions of the monthly neighborhood newspaper - O Noticiário.
