EnglishThis monograph is a search involving all districts in the municipality of Serra do Mel in the state of Rio Grande do Note and are intended to identify the profile of family farmers, producers of honey, considering the social, environmental and productive in activity. 25 interviews were conducted semi-structured, with beekeepers of the main rural communities in the municipality of SIERRA'S HONEY - RN. The procedure adopted was the random sample simple. Producers interviewed understand that beekeeping is a lucrative activity. However, in spite of being organized into cooperatives, have difficulty optimize profits. The limitations on the formal educational training, hinder the ability management as well as the fragility of the organizational category, seem to be the factors that contribute most to this reality, there is a view of beekeeping in the market expansion. portuguesEsta monografia e uma pesquisa que envolve as localidades do municipio de Serra do Mel no estado do Rio Grande do Note e tem por objetivo identificar o perfil dos agricultores familiares, produtores de mel, considerando os aspectos sociais, ambientais e produtivos da atividade. Foram realizadas 25 entrevistas semi-estruturados, com apicultores das principais comunidades rurais do municipio de SERRA DO MEL - RN. O procedimento amostral adotado foi o aleatorio simples. Os produtores entrevistados compreendem que a apicultura e uma atividade lucrativa. Todavia, apesar de estarem organizados em cooperativas, tem dificuldade em otimizar os lucros. As limitacoes quanto a formacao educacional formal, entravam a habilidade gerencial, bem como a fragilidade organizacional da categoria, parecem ser os fatores que mais contribuem para esta realidade, haja vista o mercado de apicultura em expansao.
