Resumo

The article describes the movement of Tran-Hudson bus commuters on 1,290 buses in the morning peak period through a system composed of the Route 495 exclusive bus lane (XBL), the Lincoln Tunnel (LT), and the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) on 42nd Street in New York. The article reports a study to find ways to incrementally expand the capacity at the constraint points of the system. The details are summarized of the analysis in which the capacity of each sub-element of the XBL/LT/PABT system was determined and compared with projected demand. The peak volume constraints for XBL, and the alternative options to achieving a reliable level of service are discussed.
