ResumoThe database, a database of feminine names, is beginning of a project that aims to improve knowledge of role of women in history of music, particularly in Italian history of music. The idea was born with students in my history of keyboard music class at Milan Conservatory. The first step was to research composers for a concert dedicated to women and music, based on sources in Noseda Collection held at Milan Conservatory Library. The scores were very interesting and we decided to continue our systematic research and created a simple database. The Conservatory librarian, Licia Sirch, was a partner in this work. I also had assistance by my student Francesca Rivabene. Massimo Gentili-Tedeschi helped me and offered to host online database on website of Ufficio Ricerca Fondi Musicali of National Braidense Library. The data come from our investigations in Noseda Collection. The Noseda Collection derives its name from Gustavo Adolfo Noseda, a romantic artist and a typical Lombard businessman, who was born in Milan in 1837 and died in 1866, aged only 29. After completing a degree in piano, he went to Naples to study composition with Saverio Mercadante. In San Pietro a Majella, he decided to create the largest Italian Archive: he not only ordered copies--possibly sometimes obtaining scores in an oblique way--but he also purchased collections from most important noble Neapolitan families. When he returned to North, he bought music from various aristocratic families. He increased his collection during journeys in France and Switzerland and at his death, it totalled some twelve thousand items, including eight thousand manuscripts and five hundred books on music, some dating back to late sixteenth century. After his death in 1866, collection was donated to city of Milan. Thanks to interest of Conservatory librarian, Eugenio de' Guarinoni, and Conservatory director, violinist Antonio Bazzini, collection was eventually acquired by Conservatory Library. A printed catalogue was published in 1897, compiled by Conservatory librarian. (2) In 1960s, Claudio Sartori reordered collection. Now national online catalogue SBN includes almost all Noseda catalogue. But Fondo Noseda has never been investigated al femminile, looking for women themselves. A first result of research has brought to light many little-known works linked to female musical world. At present, pink database includes 1,360+ titles linked to women and feminine names alone are 820, without variants. In main search form, , it is possible to search one or two names, titles, to sort material by call mark, search entire range of titles or names or feminine names only. …
