Based on a research at the Centro de Documentacao e Apoio a Pesquisa (CEDAP), at UNESP-Assis, this paper presents part of the results of the Master's study “The critical Reception by Hermann Hesse in Brazil”, which main objective is to research and discuss the critical fortune of Hesse's literature from a Brazilian criticism in order to set its horizon of expectation in different moments of its acceptance, and supply information to help us understand the author's great proximity and choice for Brazilian readers, as well as the reasons for this preference. In this way, we present Hesse's repercussion in literature and in society regarding its receptivity in Brazil, through the journals “Suplemento Literario” (1956-1974), “Suplemento Cultural” (1976-1980) and “Cultura” (1980-1991) in O Estado de S. Paulo, by showing the research under development.
