If the solid waste is derived from daily activities developed in lodging facilities, why their architectural projects do not consider the space for temporary storage of these residues? The aim of the current study was identify and analyze the information of lodging facilities managers/owners about the storage conditions of solid waste generated in these businesses, as well as the observation of these conditions. The research was conducted in 13 lodging facilities of Caxias do Sul, located in the touristic region Uva e Vinho of Rio Grande do Sul State. The used data collection techniques were: the interview and the direct observation. The collected data indicates that in only two lodging facilities the specific space for temporary storage of solid waste was planned still in the building construction (architectural project). The results lead to the conclusion that there is the necessity of reviewing the conception of architectural projects in lodging facilities, accounting for waste generation and providing space for storage, ensuring sanitary and environmental conditions.
