ResumoThe first member of transient receptor potential (TRP) channel superfamily was discovered in photoreceptors of Drosophila over 30 years ago.1 Since then this protein superfamily has been extensively characterized based on exponential increases in the number of publications related to TRP channels. With 28 TRP homologous genes identified in mammals, TRP channels have been detected in both neural and non-neural tissues.
