ResumoSurficial sediments from the Gulf of Tehuantepec floor were collected on board of R/V El Puma, during oceanographic cruises MIMAR III and MIMAR IV on may-june 987 and march-april 1988, respectively. Physical and chemical data from water column, as well as echosounding profiles were taken. The Tehuantepec Fracture was discussed through physiographic features after echosounding analysis. Collaphane was the main mineralogical component found in the bottom sediments. The collophane is associated with frankolite, dahallite and glauconite. When biogenic components incresae, phosphorous pentoxide is enriched in total sediment sample, resulting a replacement in orgaic detritus. Phosphatic sediments genesis is directly related to upwelling existences as well as minimun disolved oxigen zones.
