ResumoOn the basis of a study about the «Semanario del Nuevo Reino de Granada» this article argues that the issue of population in this publication participates of an effort to construct a project of social order and an enlightened Creole community in charge of achieving it.Several memoirs are analyzed in order to explore how the concern for knowing, quantifying, classifying, ordering and controlling the population of the Nueva Granada relied on political economy, medicine, hygiene and education as powerful mechanisms to constitute individuals 'useful to the Kingdom'.
