Resumo

The axiom "Keep the Faith" is addressed as a coping mechanism for swiving the social transitions of life. Leisure as a lifelong philosophy is applied as a conduit for daily reference of this religious phrase. Seven social transitions are discussed which are employed as adjustments to life events (i.e., death of spouse, illness and disability). Primarily found in later life, the stress of life events is documented as a major influence on the aging process. The role of religion and faith are found to be critical elements in one's personal adaptation to aging as well as surviving the uncertainty of life events. Religious phrases can be used to counsel individuals through problems and/or situations. The biblical reference "Keep the Faith" has direct links to faith in a supreme being and the belief that one can fmd a purpose for living and a means of coping with the unknown. Leisure activity is explored as a method of crisis intervention and a lifelong diet of nurturing emotions is recommended for well-being.
