ResumoProgesterone determinations were carried out on 37 samples of uterine venous blood collected during the second trimester of pregnancy from 23 women, 2 to 21 hours after the intra-amniotic administration of hypertonic saline. Twenty-seven determinations were also carried out on the peripheral blood of these women both before and after the saline treatment. There appeared to be little effect of the saline treatment on the production of progesterone by the placenta, in spite of an increased interine activity and sensitivity to oxytocin.
