This paper studies healthcare systems for public workers, analyzing structural aspects (legislation, finances, resources), management processes and results (use and access indicators), based on the investigation of 46 institutes during 2001. The compulsory social security model is adopted by most institutes. However, the continuation of this system depends on the changes that the social security reform under discussion might entail, and those organizations face the risk of losing their social security feature.
