A comparative analysis of old age social representations among old people from geriatric institutions and gathering groups This piece of work has analysed the old age social representations among old people from institutions of long permanence (ILPI’s) and gathering groups (GCI’s). A hundred old people from these institutions have taken part in it, men and women, the age average of 65 years. It has been used the Word Free Association Text with induction stimulus: old age (E1), old aged groups/shelters for old people (E2) e family (E3); it was made individually inside the GCI’s and ILPI’s. Later a factorial analysis of correspondence. The data colected showed old age social representation as a synonym of illness, as well as a negative image of themselves and the process of getting old, the marjority of them from the ILPI’s. It is suggested interventions to prevent and promote health, developing actions on a positive way, contributing to na active and successful ageing.
