Resumo

Primary hyperhidrosis is a profuse excessive production of sweat affecting the hands, feet and axillae. Hyperhidrosis may be a real social and work dissability. Topical and surgical treatment are by no means satisfactory. We present the results of 28 thoracoscopic sympathectomies on upper limbs in 21 patients with primary hyperhidrosis (seven in both limbs and 14 unilaterally). In 100% of the patients the sweat dissapeared completely on upper limbs and axillae. Side effects were minimal and we did not found recurrencies in a 2 to 28-month follow-up.
