Insect behavior and control techniques

A busca por metodos alternativos que visam a um controle eficiente em relacao a insetos pragas que acometem diversas lavouras vem se tornando cada vez maior, nao so no Rio Grande do Sul - BR, mas mundialmente. O presente trabalho apresenta os diferentes tipos de plantas inseticidas utilizados por agricultores orgânicos do municipio de Arroio do Meio, pertencente ao Vale do Taquari/RS/BR. Para a realizacao do mesmo, entrevistas com questionarios padronizados, foram realizadas no periodo de setembro e outubro do ano de 2009 com todos os produtores de agricultura orgânica pertencentes a area de estudo e tambem a funcionarios da EMATER municipal. Nestas entrevistas diversas especies vegetais foram apontadas como inseticidas naturais, sendo a maior parte delas pertencente a familia Asteracea. Todos os agricultores entrevistados utilizam extratos de plantas, sendo que 82% fazem o cultivo destas em sua propriedade. Todos relataram obter resultados satisfatorios no manejo de diferentes insetos considerados pragas das lavouras com a utilizacao dos extratos vegetais em suas propriedades. ABSTRACT The incessant search for alternative methods aimed at an efficient control for insect pests that attack various crops, is becoming increasingly not only locally but globally. This paper presents the different types of plants used insecticide in organic agriculture in the Arroio do Meio/RS. To achieve the same, standardized questionnaires were conducted during September and October of 2009 with all producers of organic agriculture belonging to the study area and also EMATER. In these questionnaires many plant species have been identified as natural insecticides, and most of them belonging to the Asteraceae. All farmers interviewed use plant extracts, and 82% of these are growing on their property. All reported satisfactory results in the management of various insect pests of crops with the use of plant extracts in their properties.
