Resumo

Baseando-se em narrativas de padres, viajantes, etnologos, literatos, historiadores entre outros escritores em diferentes momentos historicos, o artigo recupera o poder das aguas na constituicao das identidades marajoaras de matrizes multietnicas, dando visibilidade para os rostos afroindigenas. Tais escrituras e literaturas demonstram tambem o poder dos saberes locais no orquestrar da condicao humana estrangeira, assim como revela estranhamentos sentidos por evangelizadores, viajantes, pesquisadores e curiosos, para conviver e entender a cartografia fisica e cultural regional. Por tais dependencias, diferentes intelectuais reconheceram as populacoes marajoaras ribeirinhas como autenticas construtoras e guardioes de patrimonios materiais e imateriais necessarios a sustentabilidade e equilibrio da regiao. The power of local knowledge: writingsand literature in the Marajoara waters regime Based on narratives from priests, travelers, ethnologists, literates, historians and other writers from different historical periods, this article retrieves the power of waters in the constitution of marajoara identities of multiethnic origins, giving visibility to the African-indigenous faces. These writings and literature also demonstrate the power of local knowledge in the orchestration of the foreign human condition, as well as reveal the strangeness felt by evangelizers, travelers, researchers and the curious, in living together and understanding the regional physical and cultural cartography. For such relations, several intellectuals have recognized the ribeirinho marajoara populations as authentic builders and guardians of material and immaterial patrimonies necessary to the sustainability and balance of the region.
