ResumoA set of analytical methods for the determination of the organic halogen group parameters AOX, EOX and VOX has been developed and tested for applicability in ground water studies. The methods can be applied in the range 1–100 μg ct/L with a relative standard deviation of 5–10%. The methods are unbiased by interference from many common constituents in ground waters, but high concentrations of iodide and sulphide may bias the AOX determination. Highly humic waters and waters heavily polluted with volatile, non-halogenated organics might exhibit reduced recoveries of EOX and VOX, respectively. Each method contributes with information on the nature of the organic halogens with respect to volatility and polarity, as demontrated by a recovery study for selected test compounds.
