Resumo

High-resolution spectroscopic study of the F07→5D0 transition revealed more than 40 different sites for the rare-earth ion. The multisite behavior was found to be due to clustering of the dopants and dopant induced microscopic defects. Hole-burning efficiencies were measured for some sites.
