ResumoThis paper deals with the species of plants used with therapeutic purposes in a sector along the banks of Rio de La Plata known as “Monte”. This place is situated in the south-east of Berisso city, Buenos Aires, Argentina and comprises an area of 10 km 2 in the localities of Palo Blanco and Los Talas. Data was recorded through forty interviews, revision of files, collection of plants in situ and later determination with optic instruments, specific bibliography and digital pictures record. As a result of this research, thirty six species of recognized use in popular medicine were identified among the villagers. The species mostly used were: Cortaderia selloana (Schult. & Schult. f.)Asch.& Graebn. (Poaceaeae) and Equisetum giganteum L. (Equisetaceae). The therapeutic uses registered were: anticephalagic, antidiabetic, antidiarrheal, antispasmodic, antihelmintic, antihemorroidal, antinephritic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antitussive, astringent, cardiotonic, carminative, depurative, digestive, diuretic, emetic, for sneeze, expectorant, hepatic, laxative, refreshing, sedative and vulnerary. Likewise, some persons resort to the services of a quack who gives prepared realized with the plants of the Monte.
