Resumo

The work described here is an attempt to establish a dialogue between Vygotsky and psychoanalysis. We believe contemporary psychoanalytic theories (ego psychology, object-relations theory, and self psychology) have expanded and altered Freud's theory to the extent that, behind insufficiently explicated ideas and metaphoric language, Vygotsky's essential ideas seem to be "hidden" by the psychoanalytic developmental theory and the principles of psychotherapy. The basic similarity between these two theoretical-methodological systems is in the factor considered to play the formative role in the development of the personality—social interaction—and the mechanism of development—internalization.
