Since its inauguration in 1888 up to 1978, the Hospedaria de Imigrantes de Sao Paulo acted in the reception, selection and guiding of approximately 3,5 million workers (immigrant and Brazilians workers) for diverse sectors of Sao Paulo agriculture. Significant part of the documentation produced or deposited in this Institution is composed for personals registers as: books of register, fiches of identification and edge lists. These documents reveal diverse interests. On the other hand, they are sources that disclose important information on the (collective) memory of immigration to Sao Paulo and at the same time display pertinent personal data that can be considered of private matter or related to another meaning of the memory.
