ResumoIt is a book made up of 17 chapters which aims to point the way to the full training of a poet. According to Scaliger, that task should be methodical and include two fundamental criteria, imitation and critical judgement. Since the beginning, to the detriment of Homer, Virgil is mentioned as an example of the utmost perfection. That intention will be recurrently underlined throughout the text by resorting to the adjective diuinus to qualify the Mantuan poet. Keywords: Greek literature; Latin Literature; Humanism; poetics; poetical art; Aristotle; Homer; Horace; Virgil, Scaliger.
