Resumo

Este artigo apresenta um caso bem-sucedido de projeto de intervencao na area ambiental, ao descrever o processo de adequacao ambiental da suinicultura da regiao do Alto Uruguai Catarinense, desenvolvido pelo Comite Regional da Suinocultura. A experiencia, derivada de uma proposta apresentada pelo Ministerio Publico do Estado de Santa Catarina como solucao para o problema ambiental da regiao da Associacao dos Municipios do Alto Uruguai Catarinense (Amauc), destaca-se por uma serie de aspectos, entre os quais: envolver cerca de 3.000 suinocultores; adotar uma abordagem participativa; envolver entidades publicas, privadas e do terceiro setor; realizar atividades que perduram por mais de oito anos ininterruptos; e abrir espaco para vincular os problemas ambientais as questoes socioeconomicas que afetam a atividade rural . ENVIRONMENTAL SUITABILITY OF PIG FARMING IN THE AREA OF ALTO URUGUAI CATARINENSE: COLLECTIVE ACTION TO CREATE A CONDUCT ADJUSTMENT AGREEMENT ABSTRACT This paper shows a successful case of an intervention project in the environmental area, by describing the environmental suitability of the pig farms in the area of Alto Uruguai Catarinense, which was carried out by a regional committee on pig farming of that area. This project originates from a proposal by the Public Ministry of the state of Santa Catarina, as a solution to the environmental problem of the area of Amauc (an association of the municipalities of the Alto Uruguai Catarinense). Some distinguished features characterize the project. Among them are: the involvement of approximately 3,000 pig farmers; the adoption of a participatory approach; the involvement of public, private and third sector entities; the performance of activities that last for more than eight consecutive years; and an approach linking environmental issues to the socioeconomic issues affecting the rural activity.
