Sociology and Education in Brazil

A group of writers, philosophers, public men, among them – Antero de Quental, Eca de Queiros, Oliveira Martins, Ramalho Ortigao, Teofilo Braga, Guerra Junqueiro, Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro – produced by 1870 decade, a disturbing discussion in Portuguese culture. A result from these new ideas was the regular monthly publication As Farpas, about cultural and politician Portuguese critics and published from May 1871 to October 1872 by Eca de Queiros and Ramalho Ortigao. Some of these texts refer to Brazil, especially those that are indicated to D Pedro II, emphazising some points of view from this group, known as 70’s Generation.
