Esta nota fornece as primeiras informacoes sobre a presenca do Filo Onychophora no Maranhao. Coletamos cinco especimes em tres pontos distintos: no Municipio de Sao Pedro das Aguas Brancas, centro-oeste do Maranhao; em Sao Luis, na Reserva Florestal do Itapiraco e no Municipio de Urbano Santos, na Fazenda Santo Amaro, nordeste do Maranhao. Encontramos todos os individuos durante o dia e sob o folhico em locais umidos e sombreados. A coleta em tres pontos distintos sugere que os Onychophora podem ocorrer em varias localidades do Estado, assim, coletas sistematicas sao necessarias para dar suporte a um melhor entendimento da distribuicao destes no Estado. Todos os especimes coletados morfologicamente aparentam ser da mesma especie. ABSTRACT Note on distribution of the phylum Onychophora in the state of Maranhao This short communication presents information on the presence of the Phylum Onychophora in the state of Maranhao. We collected five specimens in three distinctive localities: in the municipality of Sao Pedro das Aguas Brancas, central-West of the state of Maranhao; in the Reserva Florestal do Itapiraco, and in the municipality of Urbano Santos, in the farm Santo Amaro, Northeast of the state of Maranhao. We found all individuals during the day and under the litter in humid and shaded places. The collection in three different places suggests that this phylum may be distributed in many other localities in the state of Maranhao. So, systematic collections are lacking for supporting a better understanding of its distribution in the state of Maranhao. All specimens seems to belong to the same species.
