espanolEl articulo, mostrando una periodizacion de la presencia norteamericana - moderacion, rivalidad y hegemonia - hace alusion a los intereses, triunfos, fracasos y errores de la superpotencia. Teniendo en cuenta la complejidad de la region, se plantea que motivaciones diversas condujeron a una escalada, tales como el petroleo, la rivalidad con la Union Sovietica y el apoyo a Israel. Se concluye que como el papel de los norteamericanos en la region es indiscutido hay tener en cuenta no solamente las preocupaciones tradicionales de la superpotencia sino tambien otras realidades. EnglishThis article, which divides the history of the U.S. presence in the region into different periods ? moderation, rivalry, and hegemony? refers to the superpower's interests, triumphs, failures, and mistakes. Taking the complexity of the region into account, it shows how diverse motives such as oil interests, rivalry with the Soviet Union, and support for Israel have led to escalation. The author concludes that since the U.S. role in the region is indisputable, it is not only necessary to take said superpower's traditional concerns into account, but other realities as well.
