In this disease, a saccular vascular dilatation occurs at the junction of a pulmonary artery and vein, causing shunting of blood without its passing through the lung capillaries, thus accounting for the symptom complex which occurs. Excellent reviews of the subject have been written by various authors.1, 2, 3, 4Churton5in 1896 is often credited with the first description of the pathologic entity, but Hedinger6in 1907 probably described the pathologic picture as we know...Bibliography1.
