Resumo

George and Ira, Gershwin wrote Fascinating Rhythm in 1929, and thirty years later requested that Ella Fitzgerald perform the songs from their songbook. The music on the 1959 5-album set, which can be heard on the disk accompanying this thesis, was arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle. Numerous singers have performed Fascinating Rhythm, however, Dianne Reeves is a modern-day vocalist whose rich voice emulates those of songstresses past. Ella's steadfast, timeless voice coupled with Dianne Reeves' great talent and versatility provide a solid and interesting foundation with which to discuss interpolation and improvisation.
