ResumoAmerica is a Mexican football (soccer) club with one of the largest fandoms in the country. Its historical relationship with the most powerful television network (Televisa) makes the club a central referent of the Mexican football rivalry system, as it is the most hated team in the professional league, leading its supporters to special ways to undertake their love to the team. The relationship between the club and Televisa is an important source to study the links in contemporary Mexico among politics, economics and media. I make an ethnographic approach and analyze certain journalistic information. The practices and identities of one of the porras familiares (groups of organized supporters institutionally linked to the club and integrated by women, children, youngsters, adults and elderly persons) are analyzed through the ethnographic techniques and participant observation. I will describe some of the practices of this group during the games of the national and international competitions that took place in the Aztec stadium along 2008. As a result, I problematize the identity elements of the porra and explore some the social aspects that result from it in the regional and national levels, including masculinity and gender as well.
