ResumoAstronomers peering back to the early days of the universe have detected the primordial building blocks of galaxies. These cosmological Lego blocks--older and smaller than any detected before--are arranged in an elongated filament. The observations support a popular theory of cosmic evolution in which matter first collected into a network of thin filaments and later coalesced into clusters and superclusters.
