O presente artigo objetiva destacar as transformacoes empreendidas na agropecuaria cearense nas ultimas duas decadas, identificando suas principais caracteristicas, fragilidades e tendencias. Constroi-se a argumentacao considerando que a modernizacao empreendida e socialmente excludente, espacialmente concentrada e ambientalmente insustentavel, induzida atraves de pesados custos sociais e que so vinga com amplo amparo do Estado. Por conta dos investimentos governamentais apoiarem o setor privado, algumas estruturas sociais, territoriais e politicas tem se mantido intocaveis, ainda que sejam incompativeis com os fundamentos do crescimento economico com equidade social e espacial, acentuando historicas desigualdades e criando novas desigualdades. ABSTRACT This article intends to highlight the changes occured at the Cearense agriculture during the last two decades, identifying their main characteristics, weaknesses and trends. It develops a discussion about the recently promoted modernization at the rural lands which has been socially excludent, spatially concentrated and environmentally unsustainable, mainly for the extremely high social costs and the dependence on the large support of the State. Due to the Governmental investments supports to the private sector, some social, territorial and political structures have been kept untouchables, even if they are incompatibles with the principles of the economic growth socio-spattially balanced, increasing historical disparities and creating new others inequalities.
