ResumoSUMMARY Surveys of refrigerated stores of ‘Cox's Orange Pippin’ apples in England during four seasons, 1961–65, showed that about six per cent of the stored crop was rejected after storage. Each year, gloeosporium rots were an important cause of rejection but, together with brown rot and other fungal rots, were responsible for only about half of the loss: russetting and bruising were other important causes of loss. Gloeosporium rotting was often associated with severe stalk‐end russetting.
