ResumoThe aim of this paper was to correlate the strategicbehavior of managers of national winery industrieswith the process of organizational ambidexterity. Therefore, the theory adopted was mainly basedon the knowledge of Miles and Snow (1978)on types of behavior, and March (1991), withrespect to ambidexterity. The methodology usedwas the quantitative research, using the surveymethod. The sample consisted of 150 industriesBrazilian wineries. To process the data, we usedmultivariate techniques, particularly structuralequation modeling. The results point to a positiverelationship between the prospector, anlyzer andreactor behaviors toward ambidexterity. Thedefender behavior has a negative relationship withambidexterity. While this type is not theoreticallyrelated to the ambidextrous processes, thenational wine industry scenario is empiricallypermeated by the need for reorganization, given the environmental situation experiencedby the companies. The behavior of managersis influenced by reactive practices; for instance,we observe research on the need for measures tosafeguard the market, which is conducted by theMinistry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC). Finally, the research stands outfor addressing a specific theme and exploring itsfeatures, contributing to the literature, generatingsupport for management decisions and expandinghorizons for further research.
