ResumoThe effect of root maceration time (10, 20 and 30 sec.), sample weight (10, 15 and 20 g), root length (2, 3 and 4 cm) and incubation of the macerated roots in a H2O solution (1, 3 and 5%) for 48 hr., on the extraction of Radopholus similis (Cobb) Thorne and Pratylenchus brachyurus (Godfrey) Filipjev & Schuurmans Stekhoven from plantain and pineapple roots, respectively, by the tissue maceration + modified Baermann funnel (TMMBF) and tissue maceration + centrifugation in sugar solution (TMC) techniques, was evaluated. For both nematode species and both extraction techniques, maceration time did not have any effect on their recovery. More nematodes were significantly extracted with 10 g than with 15 or 20 g root samples. Incubation of the macerated roots in a 3% H2O solution yielded significantly more nematodes than the other HOconcentrations or the check with water alone. Significantly less P. brachyurus were recovered by both techniques using root pieces 4 cm long, whereas significan
