espanolEste articulo pretende dar a conocer las Olimpiadas de Ciencias de la Tierra, una iniciativa que surge en Espana en el 2010 pero que a nivel internacional lleva organizandose cinco anos. Con estas Olimpiadas se pretende estimular a los estudiantes en el conocimiento de esta ciencia, asi como resaltar su importancia en el mundo actual, promoviendo su progreso y divulgacion, y, a su vez, animar a que los participantes comiencen cursos universitarios vinculados con esta disciplina. Ademas, durante el concurso se favorece el intercambio de ideas y materiales sobre la ensenanza de las Ciencias de la Tierra, es decir, se propician mejoras en la ensenanza de esta materia en los centros no universitarios. EnglishThe purpose of this paper is to introduce the Earth Sciences Olympics, an initiative that started in Spain in 2010 but that has been running in other countries for the last five years. The aim of the Olympics is to encourage the students to acquire knowledge of this science, as well as highlight its importance in the current world, promoting its progress and publicising it, and, in turn, encouraging the students to attend university courses related to this subject. Furthermore, during this course the exchange of ideas and materials related to Earth Sciences is fostered, resulting in improvements in the teaching of Earth Sciences within non-university teaching centres.
