ResumoEconomic evaluation of maize (Zea mays) under agroforestry and traditional management systems The present work considers the culture of maize under two systems of management, being one an alley cropping agroforestry system with Leucaena diversifolia, and another a traditional system, without alleys. The experiment was carried out in the agricultural area of the Brazilian Association of Biodynamic Agriculture, in Botucatu, SP, Brazil. The aim of the work was to evaluate the economic feasibility of the production of corn (Zea mays L.) under this two agricultural systems and four treatments. Treatments were: T - Control; F - Fertilizer; B - Biomass of L. diversifolia in alley cropping; B+F - Biomass of L. diversifolia in alley cropping + Fertilizer. The methodology of costs used was that of operational costs of the Instituto de Economia Agricola (IEA-SAASP) and the profitability was measured by the calculation of income and the technique of the benefit-cost ratio. The results showed the economic feasibility of the two production systems, with emphasis for the treatment with application of biomass of the agroforestry system.
