Resumo

The fluid dynamical model of Gull (1973a, b) predicts that the radio emission of young supernova remnants occurs in instabilities at the boundary between the ejected mass and the 'swept-up' interstellar medium, and that no central energy source is necessary. High resolution radio observations of the thickness, polarization properties and structure of the shells of such objects provide a test for these theories, and also enable an upper limit to be set on the flux from point sources within the shell which could be supplying it with energy.
