Resumo

Observacoes efetuadas das correntes de mare superficiais, revelam o seu comportamento em funcao da oscilacao da mare e evidenciam algumas caracteristicas da circulacao de aguas nos Estreitos dos Coqueiros e Mosquitos. Com isso, foi observado que, na regiao, a onda de mare apresentou caracteristicas de onda do tipo estacionaria, com os maximos de velocidade da corrente situando-se no ponto medio entre a preamar e a baixamar. As caracteristicas residuais indicam que o fluxo superficial resultante tem sentido da baia de Sao Jose/Arraial para a baia de Sao Marcos. Uma tentativa para elaboracao de cartas de correntes de mare para a regiao foi realizada e com relativo sucesso. Atraves destas cartas de corrente, pode-se notar claramente que a circulacao de aguas nos estreitos em questao e condicionada pelo balanco dinâmico entre as ondas de mare que se propagam pelas baias de Sao Marcos, e complexo Sao Jose/Arraial. ABSTRACT Observation of surfasse tidal currents show the behavior of the currents in relation to the oscilations of the tide and show some characteristics of the circulation of the Waters in the Straits of Coqueiros and Mosquitos. With this, it was observed that in the region the tidal wave has characteristics of a standing wave typo, with peak velocities nearly 90° out of phase with the tidal wave oscilation. According to the calculated residual currents, the net surface flow is in the Bay do Sao Jose/Arraial do Bay of Sao Marcos direction. An attempt to elaborate tidal current charts for the area was made with relative success. Through these charts it can be clearly noted that the circulation of water in the straits in question is the result of a dynamic balance between the todal waves propagated though the Bay of Sao Marcos and the Sao Jose/Arraial complex.
