Although hypertension has been produced in experimental animals in various ways and attempts have been made to lower the levels of arterial pressure produced in these ways, such efforts as yet have neither elucidated the etiology or pathogenesis of essential hypertension, nor have they thus far led to treatment satisfactory to most observers.
