Resumo

This study had as objetive to understand the creation of the Sports Squares initiated in the decades of 1930/1940 and the modifications in pass of time in many miner cities. It was applied a specific questionnaire to the clubs about their working, in which data about their identification, installations, federal and recreational sports and management were collected. The study was based on theories of the sports genesis and of the institutions and in ontology of sports clubs. 70 clubs with Tenis Clube terminology were identified, proposed by Fundacao Joao Pinheiro, in 10 regions on state of Minas Gerais. Between them, 29 did not answer the questionnaire; 20 were extinguished; and 21 answered to the questionnaire. The Minas Tenis Clube was the first club to be designed from a dream of two illustrious citizens from Belo Horizonte and soon enough became a model to be followed by Governor Benedito Valadares, which implanted several clubs in upstate. With the creations of those clubs, the citizens in within of Minas Gerais lived a new era in sports, bringing a little of modernity for those societies and breaking old dogmas from the past and like the Phoenix from Greek Mythology, the sport reborn of their own ashes.
