Resumo

A serra da Meruoca apresenta uma combinacao particular de condicoes ambientais, principalmente relacionadas ao clima umido, devido a sua situacao orografica, boas propriedades quimicas dos solos, e apesar Das altas taxas de desmatamento, ainda mantem areas de florestas remanescentes que constituem um rico habitat para a biodiversidade. Estas condicoes tornam essa regiao uma area privilegiada, quando comparada a outros locais do estado do Ceara, onde predomina o clima semiarido e solos de pequena profundidade. Entretanto, a alta erosividade das chuvas e a topografia montanhosa aumentam os riscos de erosao nessa serra; consequentemente, as perdas de solo, agua, materia orgânica e nutrientes estao diminuindo a profundidade do solo. Desta forma, isso constitui um serio obstaculo a sustentabilidade da agricultura local. Palavras-chave: Solos. Erosao. Agricultura. Sustentabilidade. Abstract Meruoca mountain range presents a particular combination of environmental conditions, specially related to the humid climate, its orographic situation, good soil chemical conditions, and despites, its rates of deforestation, several sites of forest remains, which constitute a rich habitat for biodiversity. These conditions make this a privileged region when compared to other sites in Ceara State, where the semi-arid climate is predominant and the soil is shallow. However, the high erosivity of the rains and the topography of the mountain increase the risks of erosion in this montain; consequently, there is lost of soil, water, organic matter and nutrients, which dimishes the productivity of the soil. Therefore, the sustainability of local agriculture is at risk.Keywords: Soil. Erosion. Agriculture. Sustainability.
