In this study we assess the parasitism level in Bivibranchia velox and Bivibranchia fowleri , and test the same frequency of parasitism hypothesis between this two fishes. In 30 digestive tracts studied, the incidence of Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) sp. was recorded in 24 of them., A higher frequency was recorded for B. velox . A positive correlation was obtained between the standard length of the hosts and the number of nematodes in this specie. The standard lengths recorded for the two species of fish in the Xingu River were smaller than those reported in the literature. Two possible explanations are discussed to explain these differences: natural restrictions in the nutrient system for these species in their environment, or the incidence of this parasite which limits the potential capacity of nutrients absorption by the hosts, causing malnutrition, that might be expressed in smaller size of the infested individuals.
