ResumoThis study demonstrates that various preparation parameters of the eggshell catalyst affect the evolution of the eggshell thickness and consequently the metal distribution, the metal morphology and the metal crystallite size. In addition, it is shown that preparation conditions influence in a Co-Zr catalyst supported on silica, the production of middle distillates and particularly the C10–C20 hydrocarbon fraction. On this basis, it is established that an optimum eggshell catalyst should have 10wt% Co deposited in about the half radius of a 1.81 mm diameter particle. This eggshell catalyst displays, under reaction conditions, encouraging selectivity, yielding 65wt% hydrocarbons in the diesel range.
