ResumoThis article discusses some artistic practices developed in the Laboratorio Objetos Performaticos de Teatro de Animacao da Escola de Belas Artes da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. The research of this Laboratory is dedicated to the practice of Puppets Theatre in unconventional spaces. In this way, we discuss two performances created from the legends of Ananse (an important character of Ashanti mythology, of Ghana) and performed in public spaces of the city of Rio de Janeiro. These performances are called Exercise 1 and Exercise 3 . They work on a liminal area where several arts intersect, as the Puppets Theatre, the Performance Art, Visual Arts and Video and where the social Activism and the spirituality are considered as part of artistic activity. The concept of Liminality runs by analysis of those performances. This concept is understood as a psychological and metaphysical state where a person is located in a boundary zone, with the awareness to be between two existential levels. In this sense, this concept is essential to understand the performance arts.
