Resumo

Este estudo visa contribuir com o conhecimento do fitoplâncton do Rio Itapecuru, Maranhao, importante corpo d’agua do Estado, principal rio que abastece a capital, Sao Luis e que tem sofrido impactos na sua bacia de drenagem. Foram analisadas amostras referentes ao periodo de estiagem (setembro e novembro de 1994) tendo sido identificados 62 taxons, dos quais 15 constituem primeira ocorrencia para o Estado. ABSTRACT Phytoplankton of Itapecuru river, Maranhao, Brazil: a contribuition to its knowledge This paper aims at tha knowledge of net phytoplankton of Itapecuru river, Maranhao, na importante water resource in the state, main river that supply the capital Sao Luis and has undergone impacts in its basin. Samples were collected in the dry period (september and november/1994). Sixty two taxa were identified, 15 of theses are recorded for the first time for the state.
