Este trabalho teve como principal objetivo aplicar a técnica de análise de agrupamentos na identificação de regiões homogêneas com base em 54 postos pluviométricos para os índices climáticos: de aridez, de umidade e hídrico, obtidos através do balanço hídrico climatológico proposto por THORNTHWAITE (1948) para o Estado da Paraíba/PB. Na realização do balanço hídrico foram utilizados dados de precipitação disponíveis na Unidade Acadêmica de Ciências Atmosféricas da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande e uma estimativa da temperatura do ar para uma série especificada de 1970 a 2000. Sobre os índices climáticos, aplicou-se a análise de agrupamentos, utilizando a distância euclidiana como medida de similaridade. Na aplicação dos métodos, o de Ward foi o que ocasionou uma melhor correspondência entre os índices de aridez e de umidade, identificando respectivamente, cinco e quatro regiões homogêneas desses índices. Para o índice hídrico, foi escolhido o método da Ligação Completa, obtendo-se cinco regiões homogêneas. Todas as regiões homogêneas obtidas neste trabalho foram analisadas por meio de ferramentas da estatística descritiva, detalhando o estudo desses índices. A B S T R A C T The main objective of this work was apply the technique of clusters analysis in the identification of homogeneous regions based on 54 rain gauge stations for climatic indexes: of aridity, of humidity and water, obtained through climatic water balance proposed by THORNTHWAITE (1948) in the State of Paraíba/PB. In implementing the water balance were used precipitation data available in the Academic Unit of Atmospheric Sciences of Federal University of Campina Grande and an estimation of air temperature for a specified series from 1970 to 2000. About climatic indexes, was applied the clusters analysis using the Euclidean distance as dissimilarity measure. In the application of methods, Ward was the best fit to the indexes of aridity and of humidity, identifying respectively, five and four homogeneous regions of these indexes. For the water index, was chosen the method of Complete Linkage, resulting in five homogeneous regions. All the homogeneous regions obtained in this work were analyzed using tools of descriptive statistics, detailing the study of these indexes.
