Resumo

Objective: To report the first sighting of «howler monkey» individuals at the mountains in the Piura region of Peru. Methodology: To compare the pelage color pattern in the photographic material of reported individuals of Alouatta seniculus with that described for the species made by Tirira (2007) for Ecuadorian populations. To georeference corresponding locality points of the site of discovery of the two populations in the map provided by the IUCN (2011). Results: Taxonomic identity of this primate is confirmed according to the analysis and comparison of coat color patterns with the description given by Tirira (2007) for Ecuador, while the points where the two populations are far recorded distribution map presented by the IUCN (2011). Conclusion: Two new Peruvian populations of A. seniculus are introduced , the first for the Piura Region, located in the hamlets Sagrado Corazon de Jesus and the second from La Rinconada, belonging to the district of El Carmen de La Frontera.
