Resumo

In this article, the author presents a discussion about the future prospects of oral history in the awake of the new century, based on his own experiences over thirty years work with this method. His premisses are twofold: firstly, oral history is an essencially interdisciplinary method; secondly, the best oral history research combines the evidence of both qualitative and quantitative research. In terms of issues, he identifies four areas in which the work of oral history shows its potential strength: hidden voices, hidden spheres, oral traditions and conection through life stories. Last but not least, the author raises some of the main challenges oral history will face in the future.
