Web Data Mining and Analysis

Modern web applications are taking advantage of the XMLHttpRequest object to provide seamless communication between the client and the server, by eliminating the need for a complete refresh of the webpage. We provide an introduction to AJAX, a set of techniques using JavaScript, the Document Object Model, XML, and the XMLHttpRequest object. We discuss how a curriculum unit on AJAX fits into the computer science curriculum, and the general cognitive skills to be emphasized when it is taught.
