ResumoRESUMEN Félix Torres, alcalde socialista y dirigente de la UGT de Valdepeñas, fue ejecutado a garrote vil en mayo de 1939. Torres no fue una víctima más del exterminio de "rojos" perpetrado por el franquismo. Era inusual dar garrote a líderes políticos. La política de la venganza alcanzó a sus familiares directos y cuatro de ellos fueron fusilados. El estudio de sus expedientes militares y el testimonio de Faustino Álvarez, sobrino del alcalde Torres, permiten una lectura analítica de los hechos, el rescate de su memoria histórica y la aproximación a las causas de tan recalcitrante violencia. PALABRAS CLAVE: España, Guerra Civil, exterminio, violencia política, memoria ABSTRACT Felix Torres, socialist Mayor and leader of the Valdepeñas UGT, was executed with the garrote in May, 1939. Torres was not just another victim of the extermination of "reds" perpetrated by the Francoism. It was unusual to sentence political leaders to the garrote . This policy of revenge extended to his direct family and four of his close relatives were shot. The study of their military records and the testimony of Faustino Álvarez, Mayor Torres' nephew, allow for an analytical interpretation of the facts to be carried out, as well as the preservation of historical memory and an approach to the causes of such a level of violence.
